Central Washington University’s victory in the USA 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship qualifier Friday in Las Vegas caught the eye of longtime 7s commentator Nigel Starmer-Smith.

The legendary broadcaster watched the game as he and the broadcasting staffs at the USA 7s used the CRC semis and final as rehearsals for the weekend’s HSBC Sevens World Series tournament.

“I thought it was a very good standard,” Starmer-Smith told RUGBYMag.com. “I thought at first they were just local teams brought in to play, but then I was told about this competition. I think it’s fabulous. Obviously the players aren’t as bulked up as the internationals and are not on that level, but I was very impressed.”
