Seven of Cal's 12 players making the trip to Philadelphia for the Collegiate Rugby Championship are Are members of RUGBYMag.com's All-Collegiate Team, and three, Dustin Muhn, Blaine Scully and Seamus Kelly, were named to the inaugural CRC All-Tournament Team, making the Bears' roster the most accomplished, by far, of any in the CRC.
The most accomplished 7s player in that bunch? Scully. He was a member of the 7s Eagles off and on in 2009/2010, and he'll likely join them again after graduation. Like many of the Bears, he is a tough ball carrier.
Perhaps the toughest ball carrier for Cal, pound for pound, is Muhn. Listed at 5-8, 180 pounds, the diminutive wing is not an easy guy to bring down. His lateral quickness and aggressive running style make him a real weapon on the edge.
Kelly, who scored the second-most tries (5) amongst Bears at the inaugural
competition, will need to up his scoring output this time around, with the
exit of top Cal scorer Keegan Engelbrecht. Kelly has had a super sophomore
season, so there's no reason to doubt his ability to help fill the void
left by Engelbrecht.
The Collegiate Rugby Championship, June 4-5 at PPL Park in Philadelphia,
will be aired live on NBC both days. Irish punk band The Dropkick Murphy's
will be performing a free post-match concert at PPL Park June 4. For more
