After going dormant for the holidays, there are now a couple of weeks of college results on the books in warm weather areas. There's only been one result worthy of shaking up the last rankings of 2014, though, and it was Arizona's surprisingly dominant win at Santa Clara. The Wildcats won, 55-5, laying down a big marker in their first season as a D1A independent. The win bumps Arizona to No. 18... Read More
A National Champion has been crowned, and we haven't run rankings since before the Sweet 16, so we're in line for some major shakeup. Parts of the Top 25 held up through the postseason, like the part where we had Minnesota-Duluth ranked No. 1 all season, and final four contestants James Madison and UW-Whitewater in the top five all year. Others didn't hold up so well.
We had New England... Read More
The fall college 7s season is wrapped up, and two teams won relatively late tournaments to jump into the fray. Stony Brook won the storied new York 7s, and Nevada upset Sacramento State to claim the PacWest 7s title. For their efforts, they join the rankings as Nos. 24 and 25. Northeastern also won a small 7s tournament, but the competition wasn't considerably high, leaving the Huskies on the... Read More
With the bulk of action done for the fall semester in DI, there is little movement in the Top 25, though the American Collegiate Rugby Championship bowls did cause some shakeup.
For its win over Bowling Green, American International College moves up one slot over Dartmouth. Clemson is rewarded for its big win over rival South Carolina by jumping Utah, and the Gamecocks fall from the rankings... Read More
There was little action in DI over the weekend, as several teams ramp up for the ACRC Bowl Series. However, with teams in the Northwest kicking off and the SCRC playoffs, there was enough to warrant movement.
The results that garnered no changes were Central Washington beating Washington State in the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference opener and Penn State drubbing Iona in the Rugby East... Read More
The blender of DII college playoff rugby has chewed up and spit out several teams over the last two weeks, and just 16 teams are left in tact. The result is a lot of shakeup.
Defending National Champion Minnesota-Duluth remains atop the list, having not had to play for a few weeks. The Fighting Penguins were more impressive than anyone in DII in the regular season, except for arguably UW-... Read More
Two conference 7s champions were crowned on the weekend. In the only East Coast 7s tournament this fall, Dartmouth won the Ivy title. On the left coast, Cal won its third-consecutive PAC 7s championship.
Both teams, the winners of the last four Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships, not only went undefeated in their campaigns, they were dominant. Cal conceded just two tries in six games,... Read More
Outside of two results, all of last weekend's games bolstered our rankings. Of those outliers, one caused a bit of confusion and the other sees a new team enter the Top 25.
No. 9 Kutztown played at No. 18 American International College, and the Golden Bears won, 41-27. No. 8 Army played No. 10 Air Force a week prior, and the Black Knights beat the Zoomies by two. And No. 17 Clemson beat No. 25... Read More
It's conference playoff time in DII, and it's nearly national playoff time. For a lot of conferences, the postseason is repetitive, seeing the same results from the regular season played out again for seemingly no reason. In other conferences, the playoffs are actually heated, or they bring together two divisions that didn't paly each other throughout the fall.
At any rate, there have been few... Read More
The fall 7s season is nearly over, with only two tournaments left on the slate. This weekend is the PAC 7s Championship in Berkeley, Calif., and Nov. 22 is Arkansas State's tournament, which should draw some teams who haven't played much 7s yet. The jewel of fall 7s, the Battle in the Bay, has shaped our rankings to date. With a title on Treasure Island, Cal jumps back over UCLA to No. 2.
