Yale University, under the aegis of Greg McWilliams, Director of Rugby, presented a one-day, coaches training seminar in New Haven, engaging the services of Kiwi Scott Robertson. Robertson, a former All Black with 22-appearances, is the successful coach of the Canterbury Crusaders, winners in 2017 and 2018 of the Super Rugby Championship. He also coached the New Zealand U20 squad to their U20 Championship title in 2016.

Robertson also met with Yale's Director of Athletics, and the university's head Football, Lacrosse, and Soccer coaches.

McWilliams and Robertson worked together during a past Barbarians tour.

The event attracted 91-coaches, most from the northeast and Mid-Atlantic states but also some coming from California for a full day of high-level rugby instruction in in the classroom and demonstrations on the field. Yale ruggers served as models for Robertson’s proved techniques.

The keynote topic was "Creating a world class culture and defensive structures."

In addition to the basics, Robertson also imparted many of the more sophisticated methods he employs in New Zealand that have contributed to his winning strategies.

Rhino Rugby acted as a sponsor.
