It was a hot day in the opening weekend of the Midwest DI club competition, and with teams barely on the field for training these past two weeks, it was a trying first Saturday for everyone involved.
Columbus looked impressive in a 51-18 defeat of a rebuilding Milwaukee team, scoring seven tries in the process.
Meanwhile, Metropolis picked up where they left off, defeating the Midwest's newest club, the Kansas City Blues, 36-10 in 95-degree heat in Iowa. Metropolis led 24-0 at halftime but wilted somewhat under the sun in the second half.
Home cooking wasn't enough for Palmer as they were edged by the visiting Chicago Griffins 27-22. Meanwhile, the Chicago Lions needed all they could muster to defeat the Cincinnati Wolfhounds 25-20.
Both Cincinnati and Palmer take bonus points for a close loss.
