The Metropolis rugby club won the Midwest Sunday with a 38-8 defeat of Palmer Chiropractic College.
Both teams have already secured byes into the National Round of 16, because the South was only given two seeds for the Round of 32 (just as well as the South has only three teams).
As a result of Sunday's match, Metropolis will play the winner of the Northeast #2 (yes to be determined) and Mid-Atlantic #3 (Norfolk) in the Round of 16 on May 18 in Virginia Beach, Va.
Meanwhile Palmer will face off with the winner of the as-yet-confirmed Northeast #1 and the Maryland Exiles (Mid-Atlantic #4).
Before that match, the two teams will meet up to play each other. This was a game scheduled by the Midwest RFU as a response to the fact that so often Midwest teams go into the playoffs without a tough first-round game.
Frequently the South #4 has not made its trip to play in the Round of 32, leaving the Midwest #1 with no game to play leading into the Round of 16. So the Midwest, with the blessing of the clubs, scheduled the two teams with a bye into the second row to play later in April as a playoff warmup.
The Chicago Griffins won the 3rd/4th playoff and will host New Orleans April 27, while the Chicago Lions, who finished 4th, will play away at Life University.
