(New York, NY)- Rugby United New York, New York City’s first professional rugby franchise, is pleased to announce the signing of James English as General Manager of the organization, effective immediately.

English brings a proven track record of success with him, possessing over 15 years of coaching experience spanning multiple countries. His coaching career began in 2003 at Coopers Company and Coborn School in London. After a brief stint, he went on to coach at Blackrock College, where RUNY players Dylan Fawsitt and Marcus Walsh first found their footing.

Four years later, he moved to America, and worked at the grassroots level as the Executive Director of State Based Rugby Organization, Rugby Pennsylvania. He then moved to New York City to become the Head Coach of the Women’s Premier League team, New York Rugby Club, leading them to the USA Club Championships in 2017. While coaching NYRC, he was the Director of Rugby for Monroe College in the Bronx.

English has also held various coaching positions for USA rugby. He served as the Women’s Collegiate All Americans Attack Coach in 2016. This led to a recent announcement, that named him as the U20 Women’s Junior All American Head Coach.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the first professional rugby team in New York City. Look at what the team did this past spring with their limited time and resources; it’s hard to not be excited.” English claims, “The talent level in New York is as good as anywhere in the country, and these athletes will finally have a chance to showcase their abilities on the national, and even international stage.”

“I was looking for someone with a proven track record of success,” Rugby United New York owner James Kennedy told us. “That was obviously a necessity when selecting the first General Manager for our franchise. James impressed me in a lot of ways, so it was fortunate that he was already in New York City. I was excited to bring him on board and begin the process of building our team.”
