Clemson won the showdown with Maryland in a battle of undefeated teams in the Atlantic Coast Rugby League and thereby clinched 1st in the competition.
All three matches in the league this weekend were played on Friday night, with Clemson edging Maryland 35-27. Wake Forest recorded their first win of the season, 40-13 over North Carolina.
Virginia Tech slammed NC State 80-13.
Maryland pushed Clemson as close as anyone has, but saw their defense give up more points than they were used to. The 35 scored by the Tigers almost doubled Maryland’s total from their four previous games combined.
With one more game left in the fall schedule, Clemson has clinched 1st place, as they can only be caught by Maryland (and that if Clemson loses next week to North Carolina and Maryland beats NC State), but Clemson holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Terrapins.
