BYU defeated Dartmouth to make the semifinals of the Varsity Cup, beating the Big Green 70-15 at the Navy Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis.
The game was very tight through to halftime, with BYU leading only 15-3 going into the break thanks to tries from Josh Whippy and Jordan Lowry and a penalty kick from Jonny Linehan. Madison Hughes provided the Dartmouth points with a penalty at 32 minutes.
But, as they often have this season, BYU surged in the second half. Kody Thompson, Paul Lasike, and Linehan all touched down in the opening ten minutes of the second half. Hughes raced in for the first Dartmouth try, but BYU captain Kyle Sumsion answered.
Dartmouth's flyhalf, Dawit Workie, intercepted a pass and raced 65 meters to make it 42-15. But from then on it was all BYU, with Chris Wernly, Whippy, Joe Pikula, and Lowry all scoring tries.
BYU plays Navy next week in the semis as Navy defeated Texas also in Annapolis.
