Life at Navy. Evan Lappen Photo.

The first installment of the 2018 rankings are based on how teams finished last season, incoming freshman clashes and how teams have looked this preseason and early on. It is a bit of a guessing game at this point but here is the first top 25.

As in years past, the committee is made up of Rugby Today staff and several college coaches from across the country.

Only a few games took place over the weekend. Penn State hammered Mt. St. Mary’s 128-5 while both Ohio State and Indiana won non-conference games.

Life remains number one after plowing through everyone last year. Lindenwood gave the Running Eagles the best test last year and come in at number two.

Cal had an impressive freshman class come in this year, and St. Mary’s will be as formidable as in years past.  Penn State, Navy, Army, BYU, Arizona and NDC round out the top 10.
