The DIAA Fall playoff bracket has finally been revealed. The four conference winners and respective second place finishers all made the playoffs. Each team was ranked 1-8 based on the strength of the conference and their overall performance.
The eight teams will play quarterfinal games on November 18 and the winners will progress to the semifinals the following day. Four of the teams will head to Bowling Green for while the other half will play in Oxford, Ohio.
Bowling Green, OH
Bowling Green earned the top spot in the bracket and will play Chesapeake Conference runner up James Madison. The Dukes defeated Virginia Tech on the road 37-12 in a conference playoff to earn its spot in the playoffs.
The other two teams in this region will the MARC Conference winners, St. Joe’s, taking on the second place finisher from the Southeastern Rugby Conference. Tennessee lost a close game to Kentucky in the conference finals.
Bowling Green is favored to head back to the national final. BG is in a similar position to last year, as they faced the second place finishers from the Chesapeake, Mt. St. Mary’s. The host’s won that game handily and will look to do the same against James Madison.
St. Joe’s is looking to build off a strong post-season performance from last year where they lost a close game to Cincinnati in quarterfinals.
Mary Washington earned the top spot in this region thanks to an impressive undefeated run through the Chesapeake. They will take on MARC Conference runner up Rowan this weekend. In its first year in DIAA, Rowan is hoping to make a playoff splash when they take on the ever-potent Mothers.
The other game in the region is between Southeastern Conference champions, Kentucky and MAC runner up Western Michigan. This is the first time Kentucky will participate in the national playoffs. A contest against a battle-tested Western Michigan should be an entertaining contest.
The winner of each region will go to Furman University on December 3 for the DIAA Fall National Championship.
