The DII round of 16 started today with four regionals held at three locations. Pittsburgh, Pa. hosted two regionals while one was held in Wayne, Neb. and the final at Furman University.
In Pittsburgh, Rowan, Norwich, Coast Guard and UW-Whitewater all advanced to the round of eight tomorrow. Whitewater and Coast Guard cruised to victory while the Cadets and Rowan had tough games. Norwich jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 30-17 win over Bentley. Rowan had a dog fight with Illinois State and edged the WIIL number two by one point, 18-17.
The Northern Lights swept the Nebraska regional with Minnesota-Duluth and North Dakota State claiming victories. Both were worked by their respective Rocky Mountain opponents. Duluth only managed 31 points, a low number for the three time defending champions, while NDSU scrapped out a 12-7 win.
Down south, Furman outgunned Sacred Heart on its own turf. The Paladins will square off with NC State tomorrow, after the Wolfpack dismantled Southern Connecticut.
