There were a bevy of games in division II this weekend. A number of conferences got under but most featured just a handful of games.
Hurricane Irma and forfeits continue to plague the Southern Conference. Two games were cancelled due to the nasty weather. UNC-Wilmington has had their first two games postponed in a frustrating start to the year. UNC-Pembroke forfeited two games and Elon forfeited against Furman.
The rest of the games were hefty blowouts with Wake Forest and Appalachian State winning big. The Southern conference has a unique rule where once a team reaches a 50-point lead the game is officially over. Both of these teams reached fifty-point threshold relatively early.
In the Tri State, the USMMA entered the conference with a hefty win over Seton Hall. The Merchant Marine won 72-26. Seton Hall can take solace with a bonus point. The other two games saw TCNJ and Molloy take home forfeit wins.
The WIIL Conference got under way with three games. The visiting team won all three games and all were extremely competitive. Marquette, UW-Stout and Illinois State all came up winners on the weekend.
Upstate New York featured two blowouts. Oswego defeated LeMoyne 57-17 and Buffalo State came away victorious over Geneseo 56-12.
In the Rocky Mountain, Western State moved to 2-0 after blanking Colorado Springs. The defending champs are looking strong having racked up two big wins. Montana State opened its season with a win over Colorado College and Northern Colorado edged Colorado Mesa 51-50 in a shootout out west.
In addition to the conference games, Boston University took on Umass-Lowell in a non-conference game. BU is trying to get an at large playoff bid but Lowell came away with a 24-14 victory.
