The snow has subsided enough in the Midwest for the Gateway playoffs to take place this weekend.

Saint Louis University takes on Central Missouri, and Principia squares off with Southern Illinois at Principia High School in St. Louis, Mo. in Saturday’s semifinals. The winners play Sunday to determine the conference’s first-ever champion and an automatic bid to the DII Sweet 16.

SLU enters the weekend as the top seed, having gone 6-0 in fall regular season play. The Billikens beat Central Missouri 19-0 back in September. The Mules finished the regular season 4-2, beating Principia but losing to Southern Illinois.

The Salukis and Thunderchickens also went 4-2, both losing to SLU. Principia beat SIU 6-5 in September, but the loss to Central Missouri and a deficit in bonus points pushed the Thunderchickens to third.

The Gateway champion will advance to the Madison, Wisc. region of the National playoffs along with the WIIL Champion, Minnesota-Duluth (Northern Lights champ) and an at-large team.
