Lindenwood put in two dominant performances over the weekend to
claim the West title and earn a bid to the DII Sweet 16. The Lions beat
Northern Colorado 53-5 Saturday in the semifinal and Texas Tech 74-8 Sunday
in the final.
The Lions raced out to 36-0 halftime lead against UNC thanks to a hat-trick of tries from flyhalf Brendan Davis, as well as scores from wing Prince Russell and flanker Tyler Black. Davis accounted for 26 of Lindenwood’s 36 first-half points adding four conversions and a drop goal to his trio of tries.
Lindenwood got second-half tries from Linc Magee, Morgan Findlay and Cam Reed to close the win. The Lions showcased their depth by clearing the bench and using all eight reserves in the second half.
10 different Lions scored tries in the final against Texas Tech. Scrumhalf Nick Markowski and flanker Black both dotted down twice. Other try scorers were Davis, captain Joe Shirley, Trevor Locke, Steve Duff, Cam Reed, Sean England, Taylor Lopez and Magee. Duff converted seven of the 12 LU tries.
The Lions will face UW-Milwaukee, second seed out of the Midwest, April 28-29 in Cottage Grove, Wisc.
Tech advances to the Sweet 16 as well and will play the defending National Champions – UW-Whitewater, also April 28-29 in Cottage Grove.
Texas Tech advanced to the West semifinals with a 38-36 defeat of Central
