An Australian rugby enthusiast named Grace Farah decided to make documentary about the USA Men’s Eagles. She was curious how a team composed of amateurs could compete in the Rugby World Cup against rugby nations sporting a full contingent of professionals.
She selected three American players - Latu Puloka, Jarvis Albury, and Dan Payne - and began, in 2006, to follow their progress. The result was a 48-minute film entitled, “Try,” which captured the effort of the trio to book a place at the 2007 RWC in France.
She said, “The heart of the film is the moving journeys of a dedicated few willing to give everything that have to accomplish a goal that virtually no one but themselves would appreciate.”
Dan Payne, recently named CEO of USA Rugby, was the only one to make the squad. The well-received film is available at Amazon.com
