Rugby Today will embark on a census of rugby clubs in the United States, the first undertaking of this important analysis since 2010. It will begin the week of December 19, and continue until completion in January 2018.

It is important that all the Unions, when contacted by our staff, respond with a tally. Only if ALL unions and state organizations respond with accurate data, can we publish the precise count of current high schools, colleges, and clubs.

From 2004 to 2010, the USA total climbed by 644 clubs, rising from 2,006 to 2,650, almost a 33% increase in the span of six-years. Specifically, the two highest gains came from Boys U-19 (+294) and Girls U-19 (+122).

How Rugby Today is Gathering Information

We’ve assigned three intern associates the task of emailing Union representatives as listed on the regional web sites. We’re also compiling a list of state based rugby high school organizations.

The associates are:

  • Charlie Nelson, Washington and Lee University
  • Robbie Lynch, Manhattanville College
  • Sydney Ainsley, North Texas University

We’re positive everyone contacted will cooperate with this project. Many thanks for the assistance. We’ll publish the census in January.
