Political demonstrations in Tbilisi, Georgia over the past week became violent early Thursday morning as protestors demanded the resignation of President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Police tried to break up the protests and thing escalated badly, with a policeman being killed.
Several thousand people marched on parliament on Wednesday, and the demonstrations lasted well into the night, including in front of the USA Under 20 rugby team’s hotel.
All the USA players and staff are safe, said team manager Justin Hickey. The team has delayed a training session on Thursday until after the Georgian Independence Day parade.
Once things have calmed down, the team will go to their training field.
Hickey said there were several things the team could do in their hotel to
prepare for Saturday’s match against Russia.
