Brett Thompson's move to Edinburgh was made official Tuesday, with the RaboDirect Pro 12 club announcing his acquisition. Thompson, 23, spent the last year playing with the 7s Eagles and earned his first 15s cap last month.

"Brett [Thompson] has already showcased his talent on the international stage and we believe there is much more to come from the him, which is exciting for the competition in our squad,” Edinburgh coach Alan Solomons said.

Injuries and expected call-ups for fall internationals has depleted Edinburgh's depth at wing, and Thompson's addition will provide cover, and the Scottish club a chance to see if the impressively athletic winger is the next big American success in Europe, a la Blaine Scully.

"We're pleased to welcome another fine, young, international athlete into the Edinburgh Rugby squad," said Solomons.

"Injuries and Scotland duty means we are stretched for specialist wingers going into the season, and this addition relieves the pressure on the squad in that area."
