The last time the Lions won this series was in 1971, 46-years ago,
The All Blacks triumphed in the opener 31-15. Saturday’s first contest seemed competitive at the half with the Kiwis narrowly ahead 13-8. But Lions’ poor ball handling and opportunistic All Black play resulted in an 18-7 second half score. The All Blacks Kieran Read was Man of the Match.

Coach Warren Gatland’s Lions XV must regroup before the next Test, whose only heartening aspect is that the match will not be played in Eden Park. The game Saturday July 1 will be in Westpac Stadium, Wellington. Today, the Lions tied the Hurricanes 31-31 in the same Wellington stadium. The visitors now stand a mediocre 4-3-1 on the 2017 New Zealand tour.
