For the first time in ten matches, Fiji beat France 21-14, the game played at the Stade de France, Paris. Professional rugby in France's Top 14 employs ten of the 23 Fijian squad, a bitter irony for rugby in France.

The Fijians, acknowledged masters of the sevens game, fly under world rugby's radar as a fifteen's squad. But these South Sea Islanders are ranked in the top ten, and now eighth for the first time ever, as they dropped Les Bleus to ninth in the ratings.

Historically, Fiji have defeated Australia and Scotland twice, with single wins against Argentina, Italy, and Wales.

Last week, France crowed as the team defeated Argentina at home, a nation the French will meet again in pool play next autumn in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
