With the All Blacks winning back-to-back Rugby World Cups (2011 and 2015), could the movie biography of their captain Richie McCaw be far behind? The answer is “Chasing Great,” a theatrical released documentary that opens September 1 in New Zealand that details McCaw’s rise to rugby stardom. Memorably, he closed out a career holding aloft the William Webb Ellis trophy at Twickenham last October.
The movie benefits from home movies showing the young McCaw and his dedication to rugby, and to his desire to become an All Black. There are also plenty of action shots of his playing days with the Crusaders, and, finally, many matches with the national team. Who wouldn’t want to retire with a splendid drop goal in a World Cup game final?
The producers have not indicated when or where they will exhibit the movie beyond the September 1 debut date in New Zealand.
