Monday Saracens announced the short-term signing of Eagle hooker Phil Thiel. The Life University veteran and first-string USA hooker was brought in as cover for Schalk Brits, who is busy with South Africa in The Rugby Championship.

The signing gives Saracens five Eagles, as Hayden Smith, Chris Wyles, Thretton Palamo and Titi Lamositele are already with the club. Palamo who joined the team on a similar trial deal earlier this summer, Smith and Wyles are more entrenched with the club, and Lamositele was signed to the Saracens Academy right out of high school.

"I'm really looking forward to training with the Premiership league winners," said Thield. "Following the squad's recent visits to New York and Chicago, and the number of US players on the roster, an ever increasing number of Americans can see there is something special happening at Saracens, and I am delighted to be part of it."
