The High School All Americans will finish their tour of Argentina with their second game against the Argentina U18s Saturday.

The HSAAs are 1-2 so far, having lost a close one to Cordoba Academy, beaten that same Cordoba Academy, and then lost big to Argentina U18s on Wednesday. The forwards know they have a job to do.

“We just talk about being aggressive,” said Ignatius HS of Chicago flanker Malcolm May. “In the first game against Argentina we were on our heels a lot. We know if we can be more aggressive, we can set the tone for the team.”

They have already set the tone in the scrum. Dixon HS tighthead Valdemar Lee-Lo has been a huge part of the scrum effort, partnering superbly with Chuckanut powerhouse Titi Lamositele up front.

“The scrums did really well,” said Lee-Lo. “We’ve been working with coach Paul [Barford] and working to get low; we’re just beating our competition on the field.”

The players are strong, and probably are wishing they were playing senior rugby rules, that would allow them to shove the scrum as far as they want (U19 laws limit the shove to a meter and a half).

At the same time, defense on the lineout struggled – mostly because of the maul.
“In the first game they were just good at the lineouts and mauls, so we have worked real hard on sacking,” said Lee-Lo. “The scrums we felt we got them real good in the scrums but the lineouts needed work.”
