The seventh annual Junior World Cup for Under-20 players continues in New Zealand with the completion of the first round’s three games. England and South Africa head their pools at 3-0. Ireland is 2-1 to lead Pool B with 11 points, having beaten Fiji 38-0. (Three yellow cards were handed to the Fijians who played the last ten minutes of the first half with 12 players.)
The third round play witnessed Australia winning 29-2 over Italy. England, a narrow 17-16 winner against Argentina on a late try. Wales beat France 13-3. (Both teams have nine points). South Africa over Samoa 21-8, and New Zealand walloped Scotland 54-7. Playoffs continue Sunday, June 15.
The United States is not represented, finishing last in the 2013 event, and being dropped into the secondary tournament, the IRB Junior World Rugby Championship. Italy became the twelfth, and newest nation in this year’s event.
