San Francisco Golden Gate won the Northern California 7s Series Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif., beating the East Palo Alto Razorbacks in the final of the third and last qualifier. However, SFGG will forego Nationals to compete at the World Club 7s event at Thomond Park in Limerick, Ireland the same weekend.

SFGG committed to the World Club 7s some time ago, but had originally planned to be able to field a team in both that and Nationals, had they qualified. However, coach Alex Houser says the team has sustained too many injuries and is unable to field a competitive team in both tournaments.

It's unconfirmed, but likely the Razorbacks, who finished second in the NorCal series standings, will replace SFGG at Nationals. The Razorbacks, led by Mile Pulu and a few other guys who play 15s for SFGG, won the first qualifier in San Francisco, finished third in Sacramento and second Saturday.
