New head coach John Mitchell has picked his first-ever Eagle starting lineup for the USA's first-ever foray into the Americas Rugby Championship. It includes five debutants, with six more potential first caps coming off the bench.

Blaine Scully, the vice captain throughout the World Cup, will captain the side, depsite incorrect reports earlier in the week that restored Eagle Todd Clever would resume the role he held for the better part of a decade. Scully is a part of the ARC for just the one game, and it's unclear who will take the captaincy upon his departure.

The Eagles have some experience in the front row, with Eric Fry, Joseph Taufete'e and Chris Baumann all participating in the World Cup last year. The second row sees 32-year-old Brodie Orth earn his first cap next to entrenched veteran Greg Peterson.

Cam Dolan and Todd Clever lend clout to the back row, while Life West's David Tameilau gets his first cap. Clever gets the nod at openside, and Tameilau will man the back of the scrum.

In the backline, scrumhalf Niku Kruger will earn his third cap, center Chad London his second, and wing and fullback Zee Ngwenya and Blaine Scully bring a lot more to the table. Flyhalf James Bird, inside center Lemoto Filikitonga, and wing Kingsley McGowan will all earn their first.

Olive Kilifi is the only experienced international player on the bench, so any sub outside of prop will signal a new cap. Mike Te'o, who played wing primarily during his time in New Zealand, looks like the only sub option for Kruger at scrumhalf.
