The first weekend in the Men’s Six Nations Championship indicated that this could be the closest contest in years. The matches were competitive, one side won by two points, and there was one tie.
Ireland 16 – Wales 16: Wales won a pre RWC game against the Irish, spurring on fans to consider that Wales might do well in the World Cup, which did not occur. This first rematch saw Ireland go up 13-0 at the half, and hang on for the 16-16 tie.
England 15 – Scotland 9: All eyes were on the Calcutta Cup, the first match under the aegis of new, England coach, Eddie Jones. The Red Roses did not disappoint, scoring a six point win over Scotland.
France 23 – Italy 21: Italy were ahead at halftime, looking for their third victory against Les Bleus since entering into the championship in 2000. But France prevailed narrowly, and the question for this event is whether Italy have improved (2-2 in RWC), or are France not that good?
