With playoff action taking place across the country, we are getting a good sense of where teams stand. The Varsity Cup, DIA and DIAA provided some good insight into the current power structure.
The Varsity Cup featured two close games and two blowouts. BYU once again displayed its prowess while Central Washington smashed a good Utah team. For their efforts, the Wildcats move ahead of Lindenwold into 5th. The Lions dismantled Wheeling Jesuit with a handicapped squad, but CWU played its most complete game of the season this weekend and it was impressive.
Army gave Cal all it could handle and actually led at halftime. The Black Knights have proved they belong in the top echelon of teams. Navy got off to a rocky start against Arkansas State but battled back to fall just short in Annapolis. Despite both teams losing, neither move down in the rankings.
The DIA playoffs featured a matchup between two closely ranked teams. Last week we had LSU ahead of Arizona by one spot, but a victory on the road for Arizona moved them up in the rankings. Despite being inactive this weekend, UCLA moves up three spots. By playing CWU close for a half and going down in respectable fashion, the Bruins hop up to number 10. Utah and Davenport both drop one spot. Utah lost badly to CWU, and Davenport was a lot closer than anticipated with a much lower ranked San Diego State side.
In DIAA, AIC showed its offensive prowess in a win over Delaware. After a slow start due to having spent most of the spring focusing on 7s, the Yellow Jackets reminded everyone that they can compete with some of the best in the country.
