The New York Police Department (NYPD) and the New York Fire Department (NYFD) held their annual memorial rugby match, honoring two fallen comrades. The game this past weekend was held at Gaelic Park in the Bronx, a small stadium venue (2,000) created in 1926 originally for Irish hurling matches, but used occasionally for rugby and other sports. Manhattan College purchased the site in 1991
NYPD were the victors 20-14 in a spirited game. The police were coached by Iona's Bruce Maclean, and sponsored by Rhino Rugby.
The afternoon was abetted by much pageantry from a drum and bugle corps and a bagpiper band.
