The second round of European action is this weekend, and there are two Champions Cup matches on offer and one Challenge Cup match. This will be the last week of European competition until December.

Popping up for comsuption for the first time this weekend are the Mitre 10 Cup and the Currie Cup. The Mitre 10 is the best domestic compeition in New Zealand, a step below Super Rugby. Likewise, the Currie Cup is South Africa's counterpart. Both are breeding grounds for future All Blacks and Springboks, and these competitions are known for displaying some of the most skillful, wide-open, fan-friendly rugby there is.

Both tournaments are in their semifinal stages. The Mitre is split between the champions division and the premier division. Tasman and Taranaki are in one of the top semis, and North Harbour and Canterbury play in the other. The Currie Cup has just the one division.

There are also some domestic options, with West Coast 7s kicking off in California, a Rocky Mountain clash between Colorado State and Air Force, a first-ever meeting between Glendale's new U20 side and Colorado, and a Women's Premier League pairing of Glendale and the San Diego Surfers.
