USA Rugby confirmed the long-rumored match against Scotland set for BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas June 16th. It also confirmed the second half of the June tests would be held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Denver June 9th, with the opponent to be named later.
Both stadiums have hosted USA Rugby tests before, with Dick's hosting the Eagles during the 2009 Churchill Cup. BBVA has hosted several very well attended tests in recent years, including Scotland in 2014. USA Rugby's home test attendance record has been set in Houston twice in that stretch.
While the Houston game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network at 8:00 p.m. ET, American rugby fans willing to travel are in for a treat with the Denver game. The opponent is unknown (Perhaps Germany returns the favor after the Eagles visited in November?), but it is the same day the Glendale Raptors host the Houston Sabercats in the inaugural season of Major League Rugby just down the road. Presumably, the powers that be will work the kickoff times to jibe so fans can take in both.
First tier nations typically play three matches in the June window and three in the November window. This marks the second time in three years the Eagles will play just two in June. They've also recently taken to playing just two in November.
