Round nine of the 2017/2018 HSBC World Rugby Sevens series in London witnessed a consistent Fiji team win their fourth tournament in a row and the fifth in the past six events. Fiji defeated sevens rival South Africa 21-17 for the gold medal. Invitational side Ireland proved to be the surprise of the tournament, beating home side England 21-19 for the bronze.

The USA, after a 2-0-1 beginning, defeated Canada in the quarterfinals, but lost to Ireland, and, finally, another loss to New Zealand 26-5 for the fifth/sixth place placement.

The USA did advance to fifth place in the standings as Kenya faltered. Both teams were tied at the start of the tournament.

The final event will be next week in Paris, when both Women and Men's sides end the season. The games will be played at Stade Jean Bouin.
