Blowouts and an upset highlighted the third week of 2018. The top three teams in the country crushed their opponents as Cal, St. Mary’s, and Life were in complete control on Saturday. The closest match of the weekend saw Grand Canyon survive two yellow cards to pull off a 22-18 upset against San Diego State. Finally, the Houston Sabercats fell to the Uruguay National team, 32-24.

In the ramp up to conference play, Cal, St. Mary’s, and Life all scored over 70 points while limiting their opponents to a combined 13 points. The Running Eagles were especially impressive by shutting out LSU and surpassing the century mark in the win. The blowouts continued as UC Davis cracked Cal Maritime, UCLA walloped USC, Baylor mauled Texas Tech, and Arizona’s second side beat Stanford.

Two MLR clubs saw preseason action on Saturday as the Houston Sabercats and NOLA Gold took the field. At Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas, the Sabercats suffered its second straight defeat against the Uruguay National team, 32-24. Meanwhile, NOLA Gold’s first outing culminated in a 69-15 victory against the Capital Selects.

The DI Red River kicked off its schedule with the Dallas Reds’ shutout win over the defending National Champions and two defeats for the newcomers of the conference. The Reds asserted themselves against a talent-depleted Austin Huns outfit to win 79-0. The Dallas Harlequins and the Austin Blacks welcomed the Little Rock Stormers and the Glendale Merlins to DI with a pair of defeats.
