While there is plenty of 7s action throughout the eastern half of the country right about now, a lot of the top teams aren't necessarily running up against each other on a weekly basis. One high-profile match did occur at the final of Kutztown's tournament, which the host Golden Bears won convincingly over AIC.
Kutztown has been on a terror since a relatively disappointing showing at the the Las Vegas Invitational back in February, winning three tuornaments in a row. The Golden Bears are back to their dominant ways and looking in stride for the upcoming Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship.
AIC has looked really good all spring, and the loss at Kutztown moves the Yellowjackets down just one spot. With the CRC ship having sailed for AIC this year, the last invite having gone to Boston College, the Yellowjackets have their sights set on a second-consecutive ACRC 7s title.
Another team that continues its winning ways is St. Joe's. The Hawks have won both of the Keystone Series tournaments so far, in Morgantown, W.Va. and Shippensburg, Pa. The Hawks side that participated in the midweek City Six in Philadelphia was essentially a freshman side trying to get experience, so we won't count those results against St. Joe's for rankings purposes.
Jumping into the rankings this week are Indiana, South Carolina and Tennessee. The Hoosiers have won a couple of tournaments in dominant fashion, the ACRL Series event at Notre Dame and the first Big Ten tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Gamecocks have claimed the title at both SCRC tournaments so far, where they've beaten the Vols in both finals.
