USA Crusaders RFC Take the Gold at the Georgia State Games and GRU Rugby 7’s

Saturday, June 6, the USA Crusaders played in their first tournament as a newly formed team and won first place in the Georgia State Games and the Georgia Rugby Union Rugby 7’s Summer Championship at Fowler Park.

The USA Crusaders won first place upon their defeat of Old White Black (second team) in the final game in the championship bracket.

“Today was awesome and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome of our games,” said Eric Rodgers, USA Crusaders rugby player.

Rodgers said the venue in Douglasville was great and the event was very organized.

The USA Crusaders main goal is to raise awareness for cancer research. In the future, they would like to play in cash tournaments to donate that money towards cancer research.

“Everybody has been affected by some type of cancer, whether themselves, a friend or family member; it’s relevant to everyone,” said Rogers. “Male forms of cancer are under researched and we want to bring awareness to them.

Rogers said this was the first time they got the team together and was very pleased to see the outcome and what this team will do in the future of playing rugby.
