David Phelps, CEO of Merlin Technical Solutions is an enthusiastic rugby dad who has an interest in sports. He has signed a deal with the Barbarians to support the organization financially, but with an eye toward making its business ventures successful.
The club will continue to play at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, charging admission and selling merchandise.
Player expenses will be cut significantly, and Head Coach Jason Kelly is now under contract.
“It’s a new business model,” said club president Lance French. “We weren’t able to use the news to do a lot of recruiting this year, but we will in the future.”
