The headlines of the second week of February saw #10 Arizona take out #14 Utah, #3 Life and #5 Lindenwood win in the Mid-South, and Belmont Shore, Life West, and OMBAC grab victories in the first round of the Pacific Rugby Premiership.

In the much-anticipated test between two top 15 D1A clubs in the PAC, #10 Arizona asserted itself against Utah, 70-19, in Tuscon, Ariz. The Wildcats’ win improves their 3-0 in the conference. The biggest match of the early season is Saturday when Arizona hosts #2 Cal. Playing against Stanford, Cal Maritime, and Utah Valley, the Bears swept its three-game slate by a combined score of 282-26.

From the early indicators in the Mid-South, Life and Lindenwood look to be the conference frontrunners. On the road at Clemson, Life dominated the Tigers, 62-5. Matching the intensity of the Running Eagles, Lindenwood dispatched Arkansas State, 24-5. Life and Lindenwood are tied at 2-0 atop the conference with Davenport at 1-1 and Arkansas State at 1-2.

San Diego State and Cal Poly picked up their first victories in the Cali Conference with triumphs over UC-Davis and Santa Clara, respectively. St. Mary’s had the weekend off in preparation for its battle with BYU on Saturday. The Cougars got some work in before snow canceled their match versus Colorado State yesterday. A mid-week clash against Colorado saw BYU smash the Buffalos, 111-9.

In the Red River, Texas Tech and Oklahoma secured their third wins of the season over TCU and Arkansas. A full docket of four games is scheduled for this Saturday as Texas plays Houston, Baylor battles Oklahoma, Arkansas hosts Texas Tech, and Texas A&M is at LSU.

Three D1AA conferences were in action yesterday as the Gold Coast, Pac West, and SIRC took the field. San Diego, Chico State, Stanford, UC Santa Cruz, Central Florida, and Florida State celebrated as victors.

After a year off, the Pacific Rugby Premiership is back and kicked its opening weekend with a triple-header at Treasure Island in San Francisco, Calif. Life West won the early match beating Santa Monica, 41-13, and OMBAC cracked Olympic Club, 52-10, in the late game. The closest match of the day saw Belmont Shore edge SFGG in injury time, 30-29.

Lastly, the Houston Sabercats tamed the Chicago Lions, 61-10, at Constellation Field in Houston, Texas. The Sabercats continue their ramp up to the MLR with a romp against NYAC on Saturday.
