The Norfolk Blues clinched the #1 seed in the Mid-Atlantic DI Club conference with a 45-24 defeat of Schuylkill River.

All of the playoff teams are confirmed, although who is #2 and who is #3 is still to be decided. PAC hasd one more game and should they win, will vault over Baltimore-Chesapeake for 2nd.

For Norfolk, though, this has been a season where they were just consistently better on the road than anyone else. After losing early in the season at Schuylkill River, Head Coach Chris Porter made it clear to the club that they had to travel well.

"It's tough for teams to win on the road in this league," said Porter. "So we knew if we were decent on the road, we would be able to win at home and do well. Coming into the second half after the winter break, we saw we had Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Schulykill at home, so we were in good shape."

This weekend, flyhalf Johnny Cameron was urged to take a more decisive role in attack and Cameron came through, challenging the SR defense. Meanwhile loose forward Fred Wintermantel continued his excellent season, and JD McManus was also outstanding at hooker.

"All of these guys are getting better, and we're playing well at the right time."

The top four teams will meet in three weeks in Wilmington, Del. to decide the conference champion. Norfolk will play Schuylkill River, while PAC will take on Baltimore-Chesapeake, with the winners playing the final on the Sunday. The champions move on to the national quarterfinals May 3-4 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
