The New York Athletic Club played its first game Saturday against north-of-the-border foes Eastern Ontario. The reigning Super League champs won 32-29, scoring six tries to Eastern Ontario’s two.
NYAC fielded a strong team including the likes of Eagles Mike Petri and Brian Doyle, former All American Nick Civetta and Super League champs Chris Chapman and Alastair McFarland. But not on the roster were regular starters Neil McMillan, James Denise, Conor Coyne and Toby L’Estrange.
The Americans controlled the game early before emptying the bench early in the second half. Playing well off the bench were John Cronin at No. 8 and Xavier and Kutztown product Marvin Jean-Baptiste.
NYAC continues its fall campaign Friday against Army at the Anderson Rugby Complex in West Point.
