Kenya proved it could with a stellar defeat over Fiji 30-7 to take home the Cup trophy in Singapore. This was the first win for any nation other than Fiji, New Zealand, and South Africa this sevens' season. It took Kenya 140 past tournaments to win their first ever title. The closest game was the semis against Argentina, which Kenya won 15- 12 in dramatic fashion with a penalty drop goal.
The USA lost to Scotland in the Bowl final 14-10; their two tries scored at tough conversion angles. The Eagles beat Russia 24-5, and then Portugal 26-0 before losing to the Scots.
The USA ended up 3-3 in the first world tournament in Singapore in ten-years. And, this ended the Eagles' streak of consecutive Cup appearances.
A resurgent Samoa won the Plate, while Russia gained its third straight Shield trophy.
