The USA Women’s sevens finished seventh of twelve teams in the HSBC World Rugby Langford, Canada tournament with a disappointing 2-4 record. Two of the four losses were to Spain, a team that had never beaten the Eagles before.
The other two losses were to England and New Zealand, the teams that battled for the Cup, and won by the Red Roses by a wide margin. England’s win broke the Australian skein of three Cup victories in a row. More importantly, it gave hope to other contestants that the Wallaroos were invincible, and assured of a gold medal in Rio this summer.
The Eagles two wins were against Fiji and Russia. The win against Russia also narrowed the margin of points between the USA (36) and Russia (38) in this season’s event.
The final tournament will be played in Clermont-Ferrand, France on May 28 and 29.
