The Eagle Women ended their Olympic run with a well deserved win against France, a team historically one rung higher (5th) than the USA.
Down 5-0 at the end of the break, the USA Alev Kelter recovered the ball from the half restart and raced in under the posts, a familiar try for her in these games. Conversion made and USA up 7-5.
Quickly, winning another contested ruck, the Eagle backs sent the ball out to Javelet. The speedster ran around her opposite number, faked in and out along the line to score. Score 12-5 and the clock had only run 2.30.
The final try came on the next restart when substitute Joanne Fa’avesi picked up a tapped ball, stiff armed the last French defender for a splendid try under the posts. Conversion made and the USA led 19-5 with but ninety-seconds remaining.
Whistle blew to end the game.
The USA advanced into fifth place. Their two wins today giving a hint of improvement for the future.
