The rejuvenated and confident USA Women defeated Ireland to advance into the medal round at the Sydney Sevens. Displaying stout defense, the Eagles prevailed 17-5, after a 5-5 half time tie.

Again, the USA offense relied on Tapper (two tries) and Kelter (one) to score three tries total. Kelter made one of three conversions.

But the key was defense, not allowing the Irish to move the ball and break through.

Wonderfully, it's on to the Cup semis with a chance for the squad to win their first medal. Congratulations to coach Richie Walker for the turnaround after a disappointing 11th place finish in Dubai.

The next match will be at 10:00 p.m. Friday night ET against New Zealand. The other Cup semi-final pits Canada versus Australia.
