The 2018/2019 HSBC World Rugby Women’s 7s begins this Saturday. October 20 in Glendale, Colorado, with twelve teams entered. The venue is the first of six international events in this competitive series. The first four finishers at season’s end will automatically qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Sevens in 2020.

Last year, Australia won the tour with 92 points, and rival, New Zealand finished second, two points behind with 90 total. The Black Ferns and the Wallaroos won all five events.

There was a significant drop off in points for the third through sixth places as follows:

3. France = 68 points

4. Canada = 60 points

5. USA = 56 points

6. Russia = 46 points

The Eagles followed a long-standing script of playing spotty with good and bad results. Their five match points totals were 18,6,4,15, and 12.  If they finished higher in the Dubai second or the Japan third tournament, they might have generated greater points and eclipsed Canada for the fourth-place spot. With an Olympic berth on the line, that must become the team’s goal.

This Saturday’s tournament will be played in Infinity Park, Glendale’s 4,000 seat stadium. Tickets for General Admission start at $15.00 and rise to $100 plus for VIP seating, Children will be charged $5.00.

The Saturday schedule for the USA is:

11:14 versus England

1:58 versus China

5:04 versus New Zealand

In addition, the event will host a two-day Octoberfest.

Future tournaments follow:
