The US Women’s 7s team prepares for the opening round of the 2015/2016 series, the first match in Dubai, commencing Thursday December 3.
The Women's Eagles Sevens squad: Kathryn Johnson, Kristen Thomas, Jillion Potter (captain), Alev Kelter, Jane Paar, Nia Williams, Lauren Doyle, Kate Zackary, Kelly Griffin, Megan Bonny, Richelle Stephens, Jessica Javelet.
Of note is the return of Jillion Potter, recovering from a rare cancer. In an interview to World Rugby, Coach Jules McCoy said, “Jill has always been the consummate professional, but getting her back to the OTC full-time is truly a blessing. Jill has learned first-hand that opportunities like these only come once in a lifetime, so every day we see that big smile reminds us all that we should be thankful we get the opportunity to be part of history.”
The squad opens up against Ireland, making its debut in the seven’s circuit. The Irish finished fourth in last week’s El Torneo in Elche, Spain, the tournament winner saw Great Britain (yes, playing as the 2016 Olympic designation) defeat France 35-19.
A recap of last year witnessed New Zealand in first place, followed by Canada, Australia, and a tie between England and the USA at 76 points. The US had to qualify for Rio, thumping Mexico in the regional event.
