The Welsh Women’s XV view this August’s Women’s RWC as an opportunity to demonstrate improvement after their poor showing in the 2014 Six Nations Cup where the team finished fifth. With only a 25-0 victory over wooden spoon loser Scotland, the Taffies lost close matches to Italy 11-12, and Ireland 6-14. The big losses came against Six Nation Grand Slam champion France 0-27, and to rival England 3-35, which finished second.
The team, composed of working women, dedicated the summer for strenuous practice, including a training session at the Merthyr Mawr sand dunes, 200 feet above sea level.
The side lost 7-10 to the visiting USA Eagle team, the game played on a soaking wet pitch.
Wales is 60-95-2 overall in test matches, enjoying winning records against Scotland, Ireland, and Italy but without victories against France (0-16) and England (0-30).
