AIC did well in the desert. Ian Muir photo

The spring 7s season is on the brink of getting going in earnest, with some on tap this weekend and the Las Vegas Invitational in the rear view mirror. The LVI has provided a lot of new results and caused quite a bit of shake up from the fall rankings.

Remaining unmoved after winning the LVI is Arkansas State. Despite losing many big-time playmakers to graduation and injury, the Red Wolves continued their 30-plus-game, three-year winning streak in Sin City. ASU surrendered just two tries in three pool matches and knocked off Utah, Air Force and American International College in the knockout stages to claim the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship Qualifier title.

AIC moves up a couple of spots after its impressive showing in Las Vegas. The Yellowjackets had ASU on the ropes in the final but couldn't pull it out. Climbing into the top 10 after the LVI are Utah and Lindenwood, who tied for fifth, and St. Joe's and Air Force, both of whom were unranked through the fall.

Notre Dame College and Kutztown were ranked pretty highly mostly on their achievements of last season, and they slide a bit after tying for 7th at the LVI.

James Madison, Notre Dame, Buffalo and Bowling Green join St. Joe's and Air Force as previously unranked teams joining the Top 25. Bowling Green's 13th-place finish at the LVI was bolstered by winning the College Clash Invitational last weekend. The Falcons beat previously ranked Michigan twice in the indoor contest.
