The Old Aztecs shocked Belmont Shore 31-21 to win the Santa Monica 7s on Saturday and create even more havoc in the Southern California Club 7s Series.

The San Diego club won a barnburner that vaulted them past Santa Monica to 2nd in the Series. Meanwhile OMBAC finished third, beating Santa Monica.

After this weekend's tournament, Belmont Shore remains 1st in the series with 60 points. But the Old Aztecs are right behind them at 56, with Santa Monica at 3rd with 52, and OMBAC 4th at 51.

The next group of teams are too far behind to catch them. Thanks to Belmont Shore being defending national champs, Southern California is the only region with three seeds to the national championships. Right now, with one tournament left on the SoCal calendar, none of those three seeds are decided. It will all come down to the Belmont Shore 7s on July 20. Whoever does better out of OMBAC and Santa Monica will secure a seed. Belmont Shore and Old Aztecs likely have a place sewn up, but Old Aztecs can certainly be caught if Santa Monica and OMBAC finish top two and Old Aztecs drop to 5th.
