The Atlanta Old White club won their own Hotlanta 7s this weekend in Georgia, defeating the Georgia Rugby Union in the final.

AOW 7s Head Coach Ronn Omondi worked several different combinations of players as they head toward the South Championships.

“Hotlanta went great,” Omondi told RUGBYMag.com. “The young guys finally showed that they have completely grasped the system that we play.”

In the relatively small tournament, Old White lost their opener against the Georgia All-Stars 19-14. After running out to a 14-0 lead, they saw Georgia come back to win 19-14.

In the second match, Atlanta looked much crisper, beating Birmingham 33-14. Birmingham ended up being their opponents in the semis, and shut them out 35-0.

“We were firing on all cylinders,” said Omondi.

That set up the final, and Old White did not let Georgia come back this time, eventually winning 36-0.

“I think overall it was a great success and we are where we need to be heading into our South Qualifier,” said Omondi, adding that he expects to field a more experienced team in that tournament.
